49UP20160703 - salinity
Many of the "significant" crossovers are not trustworthy as these compare only
too shallow data (mostly UP & UF cruises). Note that 49FA2000 is also a lower
quality crossover as the offset seems to be based on only "point" measurements
at 3000m depth. The majority of the other crossovers show (mostly negative)
offsets between 1500m - 2000m which diminish in the deeper parts, e.g. RY1994.

concentrations but within the acceptable range (offset between 0.9 - 5). This is
reflected in the weighted mean too, as the "shallow" crossovers mostly show the
same. Nonetheless the accompanying uncertainty is quite large (see standard
deviations), i.e. not enough for an adjustment. Maintain.

The summary plot is a bit misleading in this case. Only one "high quality"
crossover (49K61994) shows an offset below -4. All other offsets below -4 are
based on comparisons between only "shallow" data, see UF and UP crossovers (many
of them are calculated data). However, the high offsets of many UP and UF
cruises remains hard to explain. Further note the very nice match with UP2010.

49UP20160703 - ph
Only RY1994, NZ2005 and UP2010 have a positive offset. Also striking is that all
UF and UP cruises show a negative offset below the limit, but all of these are
also based on only "shallow" data. UP2010 forms an exception, having deep
samples too. Hence, only one "high quality" crossover, 49K61994 (received a
strong upward adjustment), has an offset below the limit. The interconsistency
check (type 2) would imply a downward adjustment too, if any (offset of 0.0065).
Alltogether, maintain.
